IIT Delhi to launch new campuses in Haryana’s Jhajjar, Sonipat

Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT-D) will soon open two new campuses in Haryana’s Jhajjar and Sonipat. The announcement was made by IIT Delhi’s director Rangan Banerjee. He further announced that the work of the new campus will be completed by the end of November 2023.

On the Sonipat campus, construction of the IoE-funded SATHI building is likely to be completed by November 2023 end. The total cost of the project is Rs. 59.73 Crore. The Jhajjar campus will be country’s first-of-its kind institute for Patient-Specific Drug Development for Cancer Treatment.

Banerjee also announced that formal programmes at the IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi campus will start in 2024. “We still need approvals, both internally and externally. We have different mechanisms to do admissions in both India and UAE. We are trying to have a blend of both. Our aim is to have diversified classrooms,” he said in a press conference.

A temporary campus for IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi is already assigned, and work for customization of the existing facilities to IIT Delhi’s requirements has already started, the institute clarified.

IIT Delhi signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for establishment of IIT Delhi campus in Abu Dhabi in July, as a part of the ‘IITs go Global’ campaign. This will be the second international IIT campus after IIT Madras Zanzibar.
